A trip to enjoy a little of everything in the three natural regions of Peru. With a curious and open-minded attitude towards adventure, we will be able to be part in the traditions that are still alive, explore archeological sites and natural parks, trek the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu and tour the exuberant riches of the Amazon jungle in Tambopata, in a single trip.
DAY 1: LIMA | INC: -
Arrival in Lima, meet and greet by the Peru Travel Now staff who will assist us with luggage and will provide a brief city orientation and helpful information. Transfer to hotel and overnight stay in Lima.
DAY 2: LIMA | INC: B
Our guide will pick us up to show us Lima in a nontraditional way. We will not follow any program, we are free to plan the tour with him according to our own particular interests and include various attractions, such as the historical center, San Isidro and Miraflores. If we feel like going shopping, we will visit some of the finest shops in the capital. Lunch will be on our own. In the afternoon, we will return to the hotel to enjoy its facilities. In the evening, our guide will provide with the best options for dinner on our own. Overnight in Lima.
DAY 3: LIMA/PARACAS | INC: B/D
In the morning we will leave with our private transport and guide to Paracas bay. Upon arrival, we will settle down in our hotel. We will leave from the local aerodrome to overfly the Nazca Lines and view the enormous drawings that can only be appreciated from the air and which represent various insects and animals, like the Monkey, the Hummingbird, the Condor or the Spider. Their origin is unknown; it is believed that it was a Great Astronomic Calendar. The rest of the morning free to enjoy the hotel facilities and its surroundings. Lunch will be on our own. Overnight in Paracas.
DAY 4: PARACAS/LIMA| INC: B
Early in the morning we will have a boat trip to Ballestas Islands. On the way, we will be able to appreciate the "Chandelier", a drawing made on a sand hill overlooking the Nazca Pampas. On the islands we will see Humboldt penguins and sea lions in addition to the migratory birds that live there. Then we will visit the Paracas National Park to appreciate the colorful flamingos that inspired San Martin to design our flag. We will visit the site museum where you will be able to appreciate the remnants of the Paracas culture, famous for its multi-colored textiles. At the scheduled time we will return to Lima.
DAY 5: LIMA/CUSCO | INC: B
Transfer to the airport for our flight to Cusco. Upon arrival, assistance and transfer to the hotel. The rest of the morning is free to get used to the height. In the afternoon we will visit the most outstanding sites of the magnificent center of Cusco, a mixture of Inca and Spanish culture. Our first stop will be at Saint Dominique or the Koricancha (the Temple of Gold), a beautiful convent built on top of an Inca palace. We will continue to the Cathedral to enjoy an impressive sample of architecture and paintings of the Cusco School. Continuing with our immersion into the city, we will visit Sacsayhuaman; the spectacular constructions and surrounding landscape are a perfect mixture. The adventure continues towards Qenqo Sanctuary to appreciate the altar embedded in the rock. We will finally reach the Puca Pucara viewpoint and Tambomachay, a striking architectonic monument considered one of the pillars of the Andean worldview. Overnight in Cusco.
DAY 6: CUSCO/SACRED VALLEY | INC: B/L
The Sacred Inca Valley welcomes us this day. On the way we will stop at Awanacancha, a complex where we will be able to feed the Andean camelids, the llamas and alpacas, and also to chat with the local population who will show us their weaving and dyeing of their traditional textiles. We will then go to the traditional Pisac Market where we will have free time to tour it and buy handicrafts. If you are in the mood of tasting something traditional, pass by the wood ovens and get some bread or empanadas. We will have lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, we will go on to Ollantaytambo, a picturesque village continuously inhabited since the Inca times, where we will visit the temple with the same name, used as a fortress during the Inca resistance and where we can get collection photos. Dinner and overnight in the Sacred Valley.
DAY 7: SACRED VALLEY /MACHU PICCHU | INC: B/BL/D
Departure for Ollantaytambo, where we will have a short stroll around the village before catching the train until Km. 104 of the railroad, where we will climb out and start the so-called Express Inca Trail, a light trek to explore the beautiful Wiñaywayna complex. After a box lunch, we will continue to Machu Picchu, entering through the Intipunku or the Sun Gate. Dinner at the hotel. We will spend the night in one of the hotels in Aguas Calientes or Machu Picchu.
DAY 8: MACHU PICCHU/CUSCO| INC: B/L
Very early in the morning, our guide will take us to the Lost City of the Incas to make a special visit to the Inca complex. We will enjoy the incredible terraces, stairways, ceremonial rooms and urban areas. The energy emanates from everywhere. We will have time to explore the citadel on our own and have lunch in one of the restaurants of the area. At the scheduled time we will catch the train back and then be transferred to our hotel. Overnight in Cusco.
DAY 9: CUSCO/PUERTO MALDONADO/TAMBOPATA | INC: B/L/D
Transfer to the airport for our flight to Puerto Maldonado. Upon arrival from Cusco, you will be welcomed at the airport and taken to our offices in Puerto Maldonado, which is only ten minutes away. While you enjoy the first contact with the jungle in our gardens, we will ask you to carry only the essentials for the following days. The rest of the luggage will be locked away in our storeroom. This will help us keep to boats light.
Overland transport from the Puerto Maldonado Office to the Tambopata Port. We will surround Puerto Maldonado in a 20 km trip until reaching the departure port. It is located in the native community of Infierno and is administered by a communal initiative. We will then go by boat from Tambopata Port to the Amazon Lodge. This two and a half hour trip will take us through the Infierno native community and beyond the control post of the National Tambopata Park, directly into the buffer zone in this protected area of over one million hectares. Box lunch. Arrival at the Amazon Lodge, welcome, the lodge staff will give us important recommendations for our stay to be more pleasant. Dinner at the lodge.
In the evening we will have a boat trip along the Tambopata River. With the aid of our flash lights, we will look for the red reflection of the caiman's eyes. Overnight in the Amazon Lodge.
DAY 10: TAMBOPATA| INC: B/L/D
Canopy Tower: A half hour walk from the Amazon Lodge will take us to the 25 meter high Canopy tower. A staircase with a handrail provides a safe climb to the platforms above. The tower has been built on a high platform to enhance the visibility over the horizon of primary rainforest that spreads into the interior of the Tambopata National Park. From there you can observe various species of birds, like toucans, macaws and prey birds, among others.
Very early in the morning, breakfast at the lodge. Chestnut Woods and Chestnut Camp: a few minutes walk from the lodge will take us to a beautiful woods of old chestnut trees that has been harvested for decades (maybe even centuries), where you will be able to find the precarious remnants of a camp used two months a year by the chestnut harvesters. We will show the whole production process, from its harvesting, the transport, toasting and peeling.
Transfer by boat - from the Amazon Lodge to Tambopata Research Center
Four and a half hours away, in the heart of the reserve, is the Tambopata Research Center. After one hour and a half, we will reach the mouth of Malinowski River and leave the presence of humans behind. In the core of 700,000 uninhabited hectares of the park, it is easier to find ronsocos, caimans, geese, macaws and other animal species. Box lunch.

Viewpoints at the Tambopata river: We will go for a five kilometer walk along the Tambopata River, where we will be able to enjoy awesome views of the river. The trail crosses a forest formed on the remnants of an old bamboo forest. This is a habitat where the Tocon monkey and howler monkey feel at ease. Dinner at the lodge.
Presentation of the Macaw Project: After dinner, the resident scientists will give us a talk, which will give us a deep insight of the biology of the macaws, their eating habits, the theories for the use collpas, their behavior and eating ecology, varieties in the population, population fluctuations and threats and preservation problems. Overnight at the Tambopata Research Center.
DAY 11: TAMBOPATA RESEARCH CENTER| INC: B/L/D
Collpa of Macaws: In most clear days in the year, dozens of macaws and hundreds of parrots gather at this huge clay wall in a spectacle of color and sound, subject matter of a front page article in the National Geographic magazine. Discreetly located since very early in the morning 100 meters away from the cliff, we will be able to observe the three great species of macaws and uncountable species of parrots eating the clay. The visit is done at dawn, when the collpa is most active. Early in the morning, breakfast.
Walk through the Flood Forest: This 5 kilometer walk covers the prototypical tropical rainforest with huge trees across ravines and small ponds. Among the ficus, ceiba and shihuahuaco trees we will look for squirrel monkeys, black machins and maquisapas, as well as sajinos. The Tambopata Research Center is located in this habitat. Lunch at the lodge.
Pond Platform: Ten minutes upriver from the lodge there is a small pond with a platform in the middle. It is a great place to find aquatic birds such as ducks, herons and shanshos, as well as woodpeckers, oropendolas, mosqueros and parakeets that have made this pond their home. Dinner at the lodge.
Evening Walk: We will have the chance to walk by night, which is the activity time for most mammals, although it is difficult to spot them. Much more common are the frogs with their shapes and sound as extravagant as their natural histories. Overnight at the Tambopata Research Center.
DAY 12: TAMBOPATA RESEARCH CENTER/AMAZON LODGE| INC: B/L/D
Time to relax and enjoy the lodge surroundings, to make a new tour or repeat your favorite activity if you wish; that's the moment. Breakfast.
Boat trip - from the Tambopata Research Center to the Amazon Lodge
A three and a half hour boat trip that will take us to the Amazon Lodge.
Box lunch. We will have an outing by canoe or catamaran around the lake looking for local species, such as the shansho, the camungo and the caiman, hoping to spot river seals that are not frequently seen here. We will also be able to observe Macaws and parrots overflying the lake. Dinner at the lodge.

DAY 13: PUERTO MALDONADO/LIMA | INC: B
Breakfast. It is time to leave. We will start the day by going from the Amazon Lodge to the airport in the morning. We will do the transfers as follows:
Transfer by boat from the Amazon Lodge to Tambopata Port
Overland transfer from Tambopata Port to the Office in Puerto Maldonado
We will return to the office in Puerto Maldonado and make a short stop to continue on to the airport. Depending on the flight departure time, we could consider leaving earlier.
