This location provides the world’s best Andean Cock-of-the-Rock viewing in a pristine cloud forest reserve. The Cock-of-the-Rock Lodge is located in the magical Manu cloud forest on the lush eastern slopes of the Andes, and is part of the Tropical Nature conservation system. We take just 7 to 8 hours by bus from Cusco to reach the peace and simple comfort of this lodge -- although many groups are so enthralled by the magical diversity of what the world’s leading bird tour company has called "the best road in the world", that they spend a bit longer.
From Cusco this lodge is only 45 minutes by air plus 90 minutes by river. No other lodge in Manu offers all these major wildlife attractions in one spot: The world’s largest tapir lick, the most photogenic and accessible large macaw and parrot lick, miles of monkey-rich trails through mature rain forest, Two 120-foot-tall (35-m) canopy platforms and two mature lakes with abundant Hoatzins, caimans and Giant Otters.
This itinerary offers the complete lowland rainforest experience, taking us by air and then motorized canoe to Manu Wildlife Center. This lodge is located east of the Manu River on the north bank of the Madre de Dios River and offers the Amazon’s finest, in-depth wildlife safari. The lodge is famous for its abundant and varied wildlife, with its own Tapir clay lick, a nearby macaw and parrot clay lick, two nearby oxbow lakes and two tall canopy viewing towers among its impressive highlights. This journey combines a spectacular descent through mountainous cloud forest from Andes to Amazon, with lodge visits in the cloud forest and along the wild Alto Madre de Dios river, culminating in a lowland rainforest experience amidst the comfortable yet wildlife-rich surroundings of the famous Manu Wildlife Center. Our overland route crosses an extraordinary range of life zones from highlands to lowlands, taking us through an array of ecosystems found nowhere else on the planet in such close proximity. We see high altitude farming valleys and traverse stark highland puna, plunge through layers of grassland, elfin forest, layers of lush, ever-changing cloud forest.
